What's the Point of Children's Ministry?

Simple Children's Ministry has one purpose - helping kids to follow Jesus.  Sure, we can express it with all kinds of convoluted mission statements and strategies.  But that's really what it all comes down to, right?  Kids following Jesus.

What does that mean?  Well, when the disciples followed Jesus, they just hung out with Him, watched what He did and then tried to do the same thing.  Yes, they frequently botched it, but they grew both in dependence on God and in spiritual understanding.  And the weird part is that eventually, they really did become like Jesus.  They really did start doing the things He did - even the miraculous things.

So, the question then is what about our kids?  Are they enamored with Jesus?  Are they so into Jesus that they hang out with Him, watch His example and do the things He did? Are they growing both in dependence and in spiritual understanding, not just Bible knowledge.

In short, are our kids really following Jesus?  And are our ministries really designed to help make it happen?
